Date: Thu, 15 Feb 96 18:40:05 PST From: bertrand@eiffel.com (Bertrand Meyer) Subject: Archive of nice-lib To: nice.lib@eiffel.com Copy to: nice.board From: Bertrand Meyer Mailer: BOOM 1. I don't know if this is a matter for the library committee or for the Board (I am sending it to both). ISE would like to appoint, as its delegate to the library committee, Eric Bezault (replacing Dino Valente). 2. I just found out that Eric has been keeping a private record of the technical messages of the library committee in HTML form, conveniently indexed by topic (mostly class names). Since this is of interest to others as well we have moved his archive to an area browsable from the outside: http://eiffel.com/private/pages/nice/library IMPORTANT NOTE A: since this is a private archive, meant to be read only by the members of NICE, please DO NOT KEEP ANY LINK to it so that it won't show up on Altavista, Web Crawler etc. This is, I believe, in everyone's interest since we don't necessarily want all of our technical messages immediately broadcast to the whole world. I have used this technique before (to provide early access to drafts of books) and so far it seems to achieve its goal. Eventually, of course, we may need true privacy through a password-based scheme. Currently the archive is up-to-date to the time of the publication of the ELKS last September. Eric will be adding recent messages and then going back to 1994. He is only including technical postings, not political discussions or comments of a general nature. IMPORTANT NOTE B: Eric has kept all technical messages of interest, including a few not posted to nice-lib. To our knowledge they do not include anything confidential or otherwise not fit for the eyes of NICE members (otherwise Eric should not have received a copy in the first place), but if you do see a message of yours that you don't want kept in the archive, please send a note to and he will remove the message immediately. Disclaimer: this archive is a service that we are offering to NICE members because the information is there and there is no reason not to make it available to others. It is an informal ISE initiative and makes no claim to official NICE status. If committee members think it is a bad idea we will remove the archive from outside access. 3. Eric (like other people) has noticed a number of typographical and other errors in the document, and some changes which the document does not reflect even though they have been approved. He is going through all the correspondence on ELKS, including all news postings, and will have a complete list ready in a few days, which we will forward to the committee. With best regards, -- BM
