The two points Steve and Paul mentioned are also very important for us. So there is no C under MS/DOS - we ported Eiffel/S to many of them and sometimes we failed ! We also should keep in mind that there may be a day in the future when Eiffel compilers will produce objects directly - not using C compilers as a back end. The Interfacing - connected with the whole area of memory control - is a serious point the committee should find a standard this year. About Steves points: nearly the identical points were conditions for SIG for the '95 vintage. SIGs and Steves paper look very similar :-) The main point for SIGs YES to the '95 standard was that all of us agreed to the following: "The fact that someting is in the standard now can not be used as a argument in the future standard discussions." (Please, see this is in bold red letters ...) This is connected for example to STRING and FILE as well as standard IO. By the hand, compared to previous PELKs the actual STRING and ARRAY are tiny - and I hope STRING will shrink even more in the near future - at least I will do my best (I hope Steve will support me) -- Frieder Monninger fm@fm.rhein-main.de 35619 Braunfels-Altenkirchen ++ 49 6472 1449 Germany www.rhein-main.de/people/frieder/frieder.htm
