Date: Thu, 25 May 95 00:34:31 BST From: Simon Parker <sparker@eiffel.ie> Subject: Vintage 95 To: NICE Library CommitteeFellow standard bearers, *IN CONFIDENCE* This note is posted on behalf of Christine, whose channels of communication are temporarily overextended. 1 In a stream parallel to the committee's work, ISE, Tower and SiG have been negotiating hard to arrive at a modified subset of PELKS 7 which would attract the unqualified support of all the vendors. 2 Progress has been encouraging, and text is being drafted now. If all goes well, the result will be known as the Eiffel Standard Library, Vintage 95. (My idea, humbly suggested) 3 Preparations are in hand for a major press announcement at Object Expo in New York, 5th to 9th June. The impact of such an event would be diminished if information were released too early. Please keep this to yourselves until after the announcement. 4 As the Eiffel standards body, it is important that NICE should make the most of this opportunity. The board and the vendors hope that the library committee will swiftly consider the proposal and recommend it to the board for acceptance. Only a few days are available for this process, during the next week. Please make sure you read your mail daily, and be ready to respond quickly.
